Without a doubt the sport of boxing seems to making a comeback. At least in Tinsel town.
On the eve of the world premiere movie, “The Fighter” staring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, Eminem is looking to start
training camp and join the Hollywood ranks on the big screen. The mega selling rapper, who won critical acclaim for his first movie role in
the hit “8 Mile”, has purchased the rights to “Southpaw,” a boxing movie in which he would star.
The screenplay is being written by “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter, who found the lyrics of Eminem’s latest album “Recovery” inspiring.
“He is very interested in the boxing genre,” Sutter said, “and it seemed like an apt metaphor, because his own life has been a brawl.”
Sutter said in an interview with Popcrunch.com.
“At its core, this is a retelling of his struggles over the last five years of his life, using the boxing analogy.
I love that the title refers to Marshall being a lefty, which is to boxing what a white rapper is to Hip-Hop; dangerous, unwanted and completely unorthodox.
It’s a much harder road for a southpaw than a right handed boxer.”
When 8CN spoke to the star of “Sons of Anarchy”, Ron Perlman , he said he had always envisioned himself playing a fighter.
With Sutter ties, it may not be long before Ron’s dream roll comes to life as an a ex-fighter or trainer.
